Hitler and my German Friends

Hitler was a guy who really, really knew how to talk. He was able to talk so well he took a small, very strange, very right wing political party. The Nazi's only had a few dozen people when he joined.

This level of speaking skills must have been very impressive in the early days of radio. Many people probably had never heard a very impressive speaker before, and the acclimation that accompanied his best lines must have been overwhelming to people that had never seen an infomercial.

My German friends when talking about WW2 do not ever mention Hitler. I think that as embarrassing as the war is to them, it is even more embarrassing that their grandfathers were taken in by someone who seems to have something in common with a pitchman.

Also, the prohibition against inciting the public may be a huge factor in their most international of outlooks now. They can't be too supportive of their country or they will go to jail!
